Bell Shakespeare's statement on the First Nations Voice to Parliament

Bell Shakespeare is a national touring theatre company working in theatres, schools, and communities across Australia. We consider ourselves uniquely privileged to have created and shared stories with First Nations artists and audiences across the many lands that comprise this country.

In May, Bell Shakespeare board and staff expressed their support to accept the invitation of the Uluru Statement from the Heart and support a First Nations Voice to Parliament enshrined in the Australian Constitution.

This decision was guided by our company’s values: Respect, Knowledge, Imagination and Resilience.

We strongly believe in the right of Australia’s First Peoples to have a meaningful voice which can guide decisions that are made for and about them.

We recognise and respect that there are differing opinions on this matter and trust that people will thoroughly inform themselves ahead of casting their vote on Saturday 14 October 2023.
