Runtime: 68 mins
Acclaimed actor, director and writer Kylie Bracknell joins us to share her work translating Shakespeare’s language into the Noongar language of southwestern Western Australia, Bracknell’s mother tongue. Bracknell’s award-winning stage adaptation, co-translation, and direction of Hecate – a reimagination of Shakespeare’s Macbeth in the Noongar language – was a collaboration with Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company and Bell Shakespeare, premiering with a sell-out season at Perth Festival in 2020.
Kylie has long been a face of Indigenous language survival in Australia, including performing her Noongar translations of Shakespeare’s sonnets at Shakespeare’s Globe in London, and on national television for the ABC’s Q&A program.
